China’s Tianwen-1 spacecraft has sent a stunning picture of Mars. This craft is circling in the orbit of Mars. In the picture it has sent, Mars looks very beautiful like the receding moon in the sunlight. On 24 February this year, Tianwen-1 reached Mars and in June it will land on the surface of the red planet where on February 18, the US Space Agency NASA’s Perseverance Rover has also landed.

Photo taken from 11 thousand km away
China’s National Space Administration (CNSA) has released two new photographs showing the crescent shape of Mars and the clear surface texture. CNSA is the only mission of the year that includes both the moon’s orbiter and the rover. These photos were taken when the probe was 11 thousand km from Mars. Different colors of the red planet can be seen in these pictures and also the dusty thin atmosphere.

Map will be prepared
Tianwen-1 was launched on July 23 last year and is China’s first independent mission to a planet. It has reached Mars after covering a distance of 295 million miles after a journey of 202 days. It has an orbiter and a rover. It is believed that landing on the surface of Mars will be attempted in May or June. Till then the photos of the landing site Utopia Planitia will be taken and the map will be prepared.

America is only on Mars
So far, America is the only country to have successfully landed a spacecraft on Mars and has done this feat eight times. Two NASA landers are operating there, Insight and Curiosity. Six other spacecraft are taking pictures of the red planet from Mars orbit, including three from the US, two from European countries and one from India. The last attempt by China to Mars was in collaboration with Russia, which failed in 2011.
