Night curfew in Bengaluru and Karnataka’s six other cities from April 10

Karnataka on Thursday, announced night curfew in state capital Bengaluru as well as six other cities, in view of rising number of Covid cases over the last few weeks. The night curfew will be imposed from 10 pm to 5 am starting from April 10 and will be in force until April 20.

Chief minister BS Yediyurappa made the announcement soon after the virtual meeting with prime minister Narendra Modi to discuss the Covid situation. Restrictions will be in place in Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Udupi-Manipal, Mysuru, Kalaburgi, Bidar and Tumakuru cities that are reporting a surge in cases.

“There is absolutely no restriction on movement of essential services, bus and other forms of transportation,” Yediyurappa said.

Restrictions will be in place to discourage people from gathering outside unnecessarily. Commercial establishments and all other non-essential activities will not be allowed, health minister K Sudhakar said.

Karnataka, particularly Bengaluru has been reporting a high number of Covid cases over the last few days. The state added 6,570 cases on Thursday, of which 4,422 were from Bengaluru. The number of active cases has exceeded 53,000 and the cases are expected to increase in the next few weeks.
